Independence Square, also known as Black Star Square, is a public square in Accra. Bordered by the Accra Sports Stadium and the Kwama Nkrumah Memorial Park. It is the second largest city squre in the World after Tiananmen Square in China. Visit the Flame of African Liberation, lit in 1961.


Located in pretty much the centre of downtown Accra, Makola is a premier and well known market in Ghana and West Africa run by very powerful market women. It is known by most Ghanaians even outside of the capital and many West Africans.


Walk through the Tetteh Quarshire cocoa farm, Ghana’s first cocoa farm. Ghana is the world’s largest Cocoa producer.


Explore the sprawling outdoor Makola Market to shop for cloth and local goods. Visits the Arts Center for crafts or an upscale gallery in East Legon or Cantonments. Enjoy a pleasurable Ghanian lunch and walk the fashionable Oxfoord Street in Osu. Visit Global Mama’s for clothes and crafts produced by women in a fair trade group Tour the eco-friendly Trashy Bags, creating unique designs from recycled plastic.Stop at Accra Mall for music or high quality cloth. Wander among the funky home furnishings and handicraft at Wild Gecko.
